Chicagoland–it sounds like we live in an amusement park.

P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center’s current exhibition “Arctic Hysteria” features a suprisingly broad and well assembled survey of contemporary Finnish art. Intended to complement their presentation (in conjunction with big sister museum MOMA) of a solo exhibition by Scandinavian superstar Olafur Eliasson, this quiet exhibition nearly steals the show. Video documenting early electronic music/sound artist Erkki Kurenniemi addresses the intersection of art, robotics and other experiemental technology, counterculture and hippie utopianism–a refreshing counterpoint to the back to nature lens usually projected on that time period. And the nature-fashion-creations of Anni Rapinoja were downright wearable.

Finnish artists Tellervo Kalleinen & Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen got the biggest laughs from fellow museum-goers. Shot in and around Chicago (including in front of my parent’s neighborhood Whole Foods) Complaint Choir is just want it sounds like–a full choir sings a litany of grievances big and small they compiled from hosting local complaint sessions.

Men wrap around the L-train pole like strippers. I am too smart for the men I date.
