Warlord [summer shows]

Posted in artlies by nerdlette on 24 June 2008

Summertime: the living is easy, humidity’s jumping and my frizzy hair is high. Its also time when galleries present their summer shows: guest curators and emerging artists get a crack at the space while most of New York heads for cooler climates. Thematic group exhibitions are usually the name of the game, the more far-fetched the better (anyone remember Drunk vs. Stoned at Gavin Brown–which was actually pretty awesome but I digress…)

This last Friday nerdlette, accompanied by her trusty intern, took in a few of the early summer shows and will be gradually presenting her favorites.

Warlord at Smith- Stewart on the Lower East Side 53 Stanton Street.

Amy Smith-Stewart really pulled together a great combination of slightly off-beat theme (in this case,

militias and the men who love them) and really excellent relevent work. Girlfriend also has a great logo…it really fits the neighborhood.
