no particular talent [invisible]

Posted in artlies by nerdlette on 2 January 2009

From a Mike Kelley interview with Glenn O’Brien:

Most people are not aware of the white noise they exist in. Tape recording and photography allowed people to become aware of what was invisible to them for the first time. We’re surrounded by invisibility. That’s what I think art can do-make things visible.

Possibly one of the best justifications/explanations for noise rock and electronic music and cacaphony. That I’ve heard in a  long time.

Also, from same interview…

Young people who would have previously gone into careers in indie rock-which is one of the few arenas where a young person with no particular talent can make some money-can now accomplish the same thing in the art world.

fucking brilliant
